GOD IS SPIRIT
Part of what we mean when we=
say
we are committed to God, is that we are committed to the fact that He is Sp=
irit
(John 4:24). Knowing this aff=
ects
the way you connect to God and worship Him. The holy location to worship God w=
ho is
Spirit is in our spirit. That=
means
I can touch and enjoy and worship the Lord anywhere. This does not disallow gathering w=
ith
other Christians, though, for our worship will be incomplete without it. Th=
is
is why Hebrews 10:19 and 10:22 speak of entering into the Holy of Holies (o=
ur
spirit), in the same context as assembling together (Heb. 10:25).
GOD IS LIGHT
We are committed to the real=
ity
that “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:=
5).
Practically for us, “God is light” means continuing in a real a=
nd
authentic relationship with Him (1 John 1:6). It also involves exposure as well =
(1
John 1:7). Any time light is
present, things around it are made manifest (c.f. Eph. 5:13). Of course Christians have differing
levels of conviction on many different things. Some of these may not be hea=
lthy
or even true. However, our
continual exposure to the word of God brings in the continual adjusting
influence of light (c.f. 1 John 1:8, Ps. 119:130).
GOD IS LOVE
We are not left with light
alone. If this were the case,=
none
of us could stand for very long. We
are also further committed to the fact that “God is love” (1 Jo=
hn
4:16). Since God is love, He finds it as difficult to hate as much as we fi=
nd
it difficult to love. This
knowledge has a great effect on our relationship with Him. Also, when we see that what He
is—love—makes it easy for Him to value us, then we will value
ourselves differently. Thirdl=

being committed to the God who is love will affect our attitudes toward oth=
ers
(1 John 4:11-12). Literally, =
the
kind of God we have affects how we treat each other and how we treat the pe=
ople
in the world.
